Sunday was a special day for me. Hubby and I celebrated out 18th anniversary. It’s hard to believe that my kids are  grown (or almost grown) and 18 years have passed since we decided to tie the knot and give this marriage thing a shot.

Private Negotiations by Kathleen Scott

Fantasy Romance

For the past ten years, war has ravaged the planet of Scicia. The countries of Telesia and Vanden have painted the land with the blood of their people, neither side coming out the clear victor. The recent death of the Vanden Regent has brought his heir to the throne and with it a new chance for peace. That is, if the memories of an illicit love and a false identity do not derail the process first.

Vanden Regent, Loden Espacian has waited a long time to claim Rinalda D’Aubry as his bride. Four years before, on a mission to Presari Station, Loden attempted to seduce secrets from the Telesian Chancellor’s beautiful daughter. His quest failed when she did not divulge even so much as her family ties and Loden fell helplessly in love. Now, the war has taken a terrible toll on Vanden’s resources. With his country on the verge of collapse, Rinalda is within the walls of his palace as the Telesian peace emissary. The only chance for Loden to save his country is to find a way back to Rinalda’s good graces and once again win her heart.

When Sergeant Rinalda D’Aubry agreed with her father’s plan of going to Vanden as the emissary in a peace envoy, she had no idea she’d come face to face with the man she thought was lost to a wartime romance. Dreams of him have sustained her during some of her worst days and nights, fighting in a bloody war of her father’s making. The man she remembers was a common foot soldier, not the heir to the Vanden throne. Betrayed and humiliated, Rinalda vows to rise above her broken heart to save both countries from destruction, before it’s too late. But memories of their passionate love making threaten to ignite the air between them, and burn all who stand in the way.

Interview: Author Kim Knox, Magnetism is Sexy!

I’m on a roll this month. Two of my friends have books coming out and both agreed to an interview. They must like me.

For those unfamiliar with Ms. Knox work, you’re really missing out. Her stuff is hot, sexy, and sci-fi. Plus, out of all my writing friends, Kim writes sexual tension like nobody’s business. One of these day, I’m really going to have to pick her brain, but today is all about her newest book, Magnetism, the first in her Planetary Bodies series.

CM: Hey Kim, so glad you agreed to chat with me. Sci-fi seems to be your first love. What is it about the genre that draws you?

KK: Thanks for asking me :D

I think SF pulls me because you can do anything you want…and not have to worry about anachronisms!  I discovered the joy of SF after writing fantasy for a good while.  It was completely freeing.  No worry about a word sounding out of place or off.  And then there are the guns and the spaceships and the hot SF men… *happy sigh*.  Which brings me to the embarrassing fact that I had a big problem adding romance to my stories. I was set in my fantasy ways.  Though I broke that personal writing taboo too. Oh and sex.  Sex took me an age to work into the ideas running through my head.  Sex in SF came easily.  Yes, I will go there with the punning…

With SFR I get to play the endless permutations of explosions, mayhem, advanced tech, hot men and heroines who love to get dirty with them.  And did I mention the hot SF men??

CM: Orlen Sol is the main character in Magnetism. What made her and her hero Dareh Andersen, stand out as must-write characters?

KK: I was reading Mining the Sky – I’m a science book reference junkie – and the scenario of sending ships out to mine Uranus for its helium and hydrogen simply hit me.  I scribbled notes and worked out who I had to play with.  Orlena and Dareh jumped out first.  Orlena was fairly new to the ship and didn’t know all the myths that surround the atmos.miners.  I needed her lack of knowledge to start the series.  Sounds very clinical, doesn’t it?  Should I throw all that out and say that the thought of Dareh Andersen confused and very naked in a corridor started the whole thing…?

CM: So, Magnetism is the first in a series. How many do you plan and will you be using the same characters throughout?

KK: Not all the same, no.  It’s the first time I’ve ever written a series and I have 5 books planned. There’s a crew of six on the CMC Theseus and they were all aboard when the…event…happened. Writing different, but linked characters, gives me a chance to move around life on the Uranian moons and explore different aspects. It’s fun.

CM: I just read the excerpt and it sounds great. Seems to me like you’ll be playing with reality and dreams a bit. Sounds like great fun. Did you have trouble keeping the reader grounded or did you play up the uncertainty and take the reader along for the ride?

KK: Wow, that question’s got me thinking! I think you struck a theme :D I often like to explore the idea of what a character can’t have, what they want and what is tantalisingly just out of reach.  Am I SF to the core wanting to play with reality?

CM: You are awesome on a stick! Go ahead and pimp yourself, Babe.

KK: lol thanks :)

Here’s the blurb for Magnetism: Book one in the Planetary Bodies series.

Orlena Sol is not meant to be in her room, naked…with her superior officer.

The crew of the CMC Theseus doesn’t have sex. At least not with each other. But there’s a new hunger in Dareh Andersen and he’s looking at Orlena as if she’s all too edible. He’s ready to fulfill her fantasies, which makes no sense. He’s always wanted anyone but her.

Orlena is convinced there’s more to his sudden interest. She fears his desire is simply a dream, a lie. Something other, something outside and beyond them is at work…but it’s a force she doesn’t want to fight.

You can can buy Magnetism here http://www.jasminejade.com/p-9115-magnetism.aspx and read the excerpt CM mentioned here http://www.jasminejade.com/p-9115-magnetism.aspx

CM: And because I’m greedy like that, can you give us a little hint as what’s to come in the Planetary Bodies Series?

KK: All the books are named after terms in physics.  I never gave the science credit for being quite so lewd.  Magnetism, Friction, Current, Fusion and Frequency.

Friction – Book 2 of the series – has already been contracted by Ellora’s Cave. I got to hang out with a very deliciously wicked hero.  Who says writing isn’t fun sometimes?

Here’s the unofficial blurb for Friction and a snippet.

A deal is a deal.

But when that deal is to appear in Tomas Thorne’s office ready to offer herself for his…consumption, Shan Rayner runs, hides and has no intention of going through with it.  That is until she’s hit by sheen, a turbulent force from the Uranian lower atmosphere.  A force that brings her darkest desires to the surface.

Need swamps her and she finds herself outside his office and all too ready to agree to anything he wants. Absolutely anything.

Unedited snippet:

She couldn’t help her sour laugh.  “Do you ever give a straight answer?”

Thorne teased his thumb across her bottom lip, light and tantalising.  “Would you want that, Shankara?  For me to be just like every other man?  One cowed by you?”  His mouth hovered over hers, his breath warm and sweet, the promise of his kiss so close her hearth thudded and the quick push of need low in her belly tightened her flesh.  “Or would you prefer me as I am?”

Arrogant beyond measure?”

Shankara…”

She couldn’t help it, she closed her eyes, the dark pleasure of his voice sinking deep.  “Why, Thorne?”

Business after, pleasure first.”  He took her hand and guided it to his waist.  The satin warmth of firm muscle caught her breath and she brushed her mouth all too briefly against his.  His order was just as firm.  “Get me naked.”

CM: Ooh great blurb and snippet! You’re spoiling me!

Thanks so much for stopping by. Oh, and I am serious about picking your brain. You’re just too sexy to let go now that I have my claws into you. :D

KK: Thanks for having me :)

And claws… *sigh*

You had to remind me of my obsession with Wolverine, didn’t you? When I was weening myself off him and everything.  *Fires up pics of naked Logan*  Sorry, I may be some time…

CM: Just because I love you, here are some images to drool over. Hugh Jackman anyone?
