Writing Prompt: Colors

This one is fun. Pick a color, any color. Got it? Good. Now pick something that you is traditionally that color. Red for blood, Blue for sky, Purple for grapes, etc.

I once read in one of the many writing books I own, that color is not especially descriptive, and they did have a point. I mean, red can be anything, bright red, blood red, florescent red, brick red, barn red, the list goes on.

So, your task, if you chose to accept it, is to write at least two paragraphs, trying to portray the color and object of choice without using your color word. If you’d like you can time yourself for a 3-5 min. freewrite instead. Either way, try to instill the essence of the color by using your other senses instead.

Have fun and good writing to you.
