Movie Review: Halloween II

Well, the spouse and I took a trip to the dark side last night. Halloween II, a Rob Zombie movie. And if you’re a person who’s familiar with his work, then you won’t be surprised by the gore content.

Unlike Rob Zombie’s first remake of the original, Halloween, this one dives back into his usual bag of tricks. More blood and gore, and there’s a scene in the hospital that will really make the fans of gore drool, or those who are not fans, wince and perhaps exit the building. Personally, I love to drool and wince at the same time and that’s exactly what I got.

Halloween II doesn’t follow our heroine’s original story line, from the hospital, but it does refer to it in the first part of the movie. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed in the way this beginning was set up, but saw why he did it in the end, so I’m torn. I won’t give away the details, but I’ll just say, it was a bit cliche.

The rest of the movie follows our heroine as she discovers she is indeed the sister of Michael Myers one year later. The movie has Rob Zombie’s usual dark and twisted humor, but not as much as say… my favorite “House of a Thousand Corpses”. Nice, but I was hoping for a bit more.

The ending is good, and leaves you thinking, and almost makes up for the cliche beginning.

All in all, it was a fair movie, but not Rob Zombie’s best. If you like blood and gore, you’ll enjoy it. If not, I wouldn’t advise seeing it. And keep the kiddies at home for this one. 🙂
