For your reading pleasure, here’s a little teasing snippet from One Night to Change, my new release from Ellora’s Cave.
One Night to Change
“Have you ever been with a man?” Eric asked.
Leo shot him a dark look. “No!” he snapped, and grabbed his beer only to find the bottle empty.
“Because…Prides just don’t work like that, Eric. I have plenty of females to choose from.” He looked around desperately for somewhere to stash the bottle—anything to distract himself from the conversation.
“Are you sure? How’s the sex life been?”
“None of your business.” Leo strode across the room to the end of the small bar and dropped the bottle into the trash bin.
Finding himself suddenly empty-handed, he felt more uncomfortable than he had with the bottle to distract him. Unable to find anything to do with his hands, he wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans and carefully put the bar between him and Eric.
He needed Eric to talk to the other city Prides and clear things up with the Grayson Pride before things got too far out of hand. The last thing he needed was a war. The Grayson Pride had two males—he couldn’t take them both on himself. And the females outnumbered his almost two to one. He had run out of options.
He glared down at the wastepaper basket. “One night.”
“Two nights, one day,” Eric said.
Leo’s heart throbbed in his chest as he stared down at the bar, his hands slick on the smooth marble top. He caught a glimmer of blond hair out of the corner of his eye as Eric moved around behind him. The man was small and sleek and powerful. Leo’s mouth went dry and he fought the urge to look behind him, afraid of what he might see in Eric’s expression. The eyes of a predator, no doubt, dark and hungry and—
Leo didn’t let himself continue his thoughts. “It’s too close to the moon. Too dangerous.”
“That’s what I want,” Eric said. He was so close now that Leo could almost feel the warmth of Eric’s body, like an itch between his shoulder blades.
“Then after the moon wanes tomorrow night—”
“No, you’ll chicken out if you wait, and we both know it.”
Hot breath tickled the back of his shoulder and neck through his thin T-shirt. Was Eric stronger than he was? Definitely faster and older, even if he didn’t look it. Could he pin the man down under him and watch him squirm, or would things end up the other way around?
Leo closed his eyes and fought to get the image of them grappling for dominance out of his head. The sensation of Eric so close set his nerves twitching. But this would be Eric’s fantasy. He didn’t have to like it, but he could do it. He could let Eric do whatever he wanted…for his Pride. That was all. He was King. It was his job to do what it took to keep his Pride safe.
If he shifted and hurt him…well, that would be the last time Eric would ask for such a trade. Win-win situation.
